ABOUT

Spencer Striker, PhD is Associate Professor of Digital Media Design at Northwestern Qatar. Dr. Striker’s work centers on interaction design, mobile media, digital media and learning, video games, and entrepreneurship. He is the creator of History Adventures, World of Characters—a fully interactive digital learning series that presents a fresh approach to history education. Editions include Empires & Interconnections and Revolutions & Industrialization. He is also the creator of the award-winning Plague of Athens Chromebook Web App; Plague of Athens VR for Meta Quest, Steam VR, and Pico VR; Black Death Interactive for iPad; and Dr. Sara: Disease Detective, for Android and iOS, a mobile game about epidemiology. Striker’s accolades include three Anthem Awards; Best EdTech Innovation at the Reimagine Education Awards; and four Webby Awards. His projects have received funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities; the National Science Foundation; the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; Northwestern’s Innovation & New Ventures Office; the Oxford Research Institute; and the Qatar National Research Fund. Striker holds a Ph.D. in Digital Media from the University of Wisconsin, a Master’s in New Media Production from Indiana University, and undergraduate degrees in Radio-TV-Film (B.S.) and History (B.A.) from the University of Texas.
